It looks as though Xbox 360 is used more for watching online movies, TV shows and listening to music than it is for online gaming through Xbox Live, according to Microsoft?s Yusuf Mehdi.

Mehdi, the head of marketing and strategy for Microsoft?s Xbox business, told the LA Times that households spend 84 hours a month on Xbox Live gaming, watching videos and listening to music.

Over half that time is spent on music and videos, with the figure as a whole up 30% year-over-year in households where on average, 150 hours a month are spent watching television.

?What we?re seeing is that people are turning on the Xbox to play games and then keeping it on afterwards to get other types of entertainment,? said Mehdi.

Over 20 million people have an Xbox Live subscription, and over 66 million Xbox 360s have been sold worldwide.

Home Improvement: Kitchen ? Thrifty Travel Mama

Of all the improvements we?ve made to our humble abode, I am most excited about the upgrades in the kitchen! ?I guess that?s a bit obvious, though, since I naturally spend most of my day in there.

First up, counter space. ?My stellar Barbie kitchen came with exactly 19 1/2? of usable counter space. ?I have another 13 1/2?, but it?s in the corner and therefore only good for making piles.

Doc Sci and I figured out that the height of the counter and the height of the washing machine were only 1/2? different. ?We bought a particle board shelf at the local hardware store for 6 euro and voila! ?I now have a whopping extra 34? of usable counter space. ?Incredible.

We purchased a utility shelf from IKEA that fits exactly around our washing machine. ?This allowed us to take advantage of a lot of previously wasted space and get the microwave off the top of the washer. ?The unit shakes like crazy when it spins a load, and I was always afraid I?d find the microwave on the floor one day smashed to bits!

Also at IKEA, I bought storage boxes for my shelf that supposed to serve as a pantry. ?Now, I can group like items and find things with ease. ?I also no longer have to battle cascading piles of bagged pasta that do not stay put. ?Unfortunately, I wish I would?ve stocked up on these boxes. ?I ended up wanting a few more for the shelf above the washing machine, but IKEA discontinued the style only a few weeks later.

Since counter space is at such a premium, I couldn?t waste any room storing cooking utensils. ?I only have three drawers in the entire kitchen, so I can?t exactly fill them up with bulky soup?ladles.

One day, I got the genius idea to use the walls for storage. ?I searched the hardware store to see what kind of curtain rods could be found. ?I was able to put up two tension rods above the stove, and one adhesive rod on the wall to the left of the sink.

Lidl offered an adhesive holder on special one week that was originally meant for the shower but works brilliantly affixed to the tile in the corner. ?I also found some dish brushes at IKEA that suction cup to the wall.

Kitchen command central: weekly meal plans, grocery lists, recipes, etc.

I saw the idea to add?cork boards?to kitchen cabinets on Pinterest. ?I knew this would help with clutter on that 19 1/2? of counter space, but I wanted my cork boards on the outside of the cabinets. ?I can?t remember my own name if it?s not written down and shoved constantly in front of my face. ?So, I went for functional instead of pretty.

Though I still have washing machine hoses running across the floor and no place to store my glass recycling, I?m stoked and thankful for how the kitchen is shaping up.

SALISBURY ? Mary Sechler, an advocate for people with traumatic brain injuries, left Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Thursday night with a handful of papers.

She will take them back to others who could not attend a town hall meeting held at the church?s fellowship center. The meeting was sponsored by the Coalition, a group made up of 40 organizations that advocate for people living with developmental disabilities, addictive disease and mental illness.

The town hall meeting was an opportunity for the Coalition to explain the state budget and its impact on mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services.

The purpose of the meeting, which is one of a series, was to bring attention to how the loss of state funds affects people who receive services from various mental health organizations.

The meeting was attended by advocates, consumers and members of the local National Alliance on Mental Illness group, as well as others who receive or provide services to people concerning mental health and other disabilities.

Jennifer Mahan, chair of the Coalition, spoke to the group, encouraging them to be vocal with their local lawmakers.

She hopes her talk will spur people to ?take action.? she said.

?It is absolutely critical that people let their elected officials know their concerns,? Mahan said.

The truth is the economy fell apart, Mahan told the group, and there isn?t much funding to work with.

Spending for these types of services, be it mental illness or substance abuse, doesn?t meet the demand in this state, Mahan said.

Growth in dollars has not kept pace with population growth. People who aren?t able to receive services because of lack of funding wait years for help, or in some cases end up in jail, she said.

People who need these services are at great risk if the current system fails, Mahan said.

Budget reductions can mean loss of services, lost access to needed medical treatment, loss of support and quality of life for people who need it and loss of independence. And in some cases, providers may have to close doors and/or lose employees.

?It?s about making sure funds go to serve the people,? Mahan said.

Sechler said one way to spread the word is to first open up about mental illness and other disabilities.

?We have to get rid of the stigma,? Sechler said following the meeting.

There are a number of underserved people who already miss out on some services, she said.

?You have to be willing to fight for yourselves,? Sechler said.

?It was very informative. It helps us understand better an overview of how the state budget works,? said John Giampaoll with PBH (Piedmont Behavioral Health).

Health Insurance For Pre-Existing Condition? | Bankrate.com

If you have a pre-existing condition, you may think it will keep you from getting affordable health insurance.

But health insurers don't make money by denying applicants. Instead, they may offer what is known as a condition-specific deductible, or CSD, that can provide the health care coverage you need at a price you can afford.

A CSD is an annual deduction that is completely separate from your medical and/or prescription drug deductible and applies only to treatment and medication for a single health condition. Once you reach your condition-specific deductible, your health insurance plan will typically pay covered expenses related to that condition at 100 percent for the rest of the year.

Dealing with a pre-existing condition

Vincent Blair, a veteran health insurance broker based in Webster Groves, Mo., says that prior to the introduction of CSDs several years ago, insurance companies had three ways of dealing with consumers with health conditions. They could decline them outright, exclude the specific condition with an exclusion rider, or "rate up," meaning they would charge more for the policy.

"You have some companies that say we don't put exclusions on any conditions. Well, that sounds good, but they decline quicker. Or they'll include the condition but charge you more money, typically on things like blood pressure or cholesterol," says Blair. "But they can't rate up an arthritic hip because there's no premium they can charge to cover a $40,000 hip replacement, so they exclude it."

In a worst-case scenario, the consumer would bear the full burden of treatment costs for their condition without the benefit of the insurer's network-discounted rates.

Assurant Health, a health insurer based in Milwaukee, then introduced the CSD, a consumer-friendly alternative to the exclusion rider that allows the insured to take advantage of discounts with network providers.

"It was a softer version of the pre-existing condition exclusion," says Michael Morrisey, professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's School of Public Health. "What happens is you pay whatever the insurer has negotiated with that doctor out of pocket rather than through the insurance until you hit the deductible, then the insurance takes over."

Under a condition-specific deductible offered by Humana, consumers with health conditions may qualify for in-network deductible amounts of $2,500, $5,000 or $7,500; out-of-network deductibles double to $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000.

While it's comforting to know the maximum amount you'll face out of pocket for your condition in the coming year, Blair says it's the access to the insurer's re-priced rates that really sell a CSD.

"If you had an exclusion rider on your knee, that's an uncovered expense and doesn't get negotiated. So along comes Assurant and says, 'We'll cover you and put a $15,000 deductible on your knee.' Why this is so genius is, they already know that if you have a torn meniscus, the bill is not going to go past $15,000, so they're going to be out nothing, and you get the negotiated rate!"

Jordan Oliver, Oklahoma State -- He may have lost his final on a controversial call, but that doesn't take away the junior's accomplishments in the tournament. He pinned his way to the final with a nasty takedown that could wreak havoc in the cage.

Christopher Honeycutt, Edinboro -- The runner-up at 197 lbs. has already indicated his plans to go into MMA, and opponents will have a hard time dealing with his strength and size. He told reporters that he is fascinated by the challenge of mastering so many disciplines of MMA, and won't be the first Fighting Scot to try fighting. Josh Koscheck won a national championship for Edinboro.
