LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Japanese stocks recovered from opening losses to inch higher in early Thursday trade, even after weak U.S. data and warnings of a "pause" in growth from the Federal Reserve sent Wall Street shares lower overnight. Japan also got its own disappointing data, as December industrial production rose 2.5% against an expected increase of between 4% and 4.5%.
